Two B Plots
Also, what's with Janeway wanting to get through the region of space as fast as possible, yet stopping off to investigate a damage freighter? Its like a child distracted by a shiny penny. Then she drags her feet with the swarm catching up and doesn't go to warp despite asking to go to warp? This character is so inconsistent, the series is becoming hard to watch.
Robert Picardo is the redeeming quality of this series, always a fantastic performance.
Worth watching for Robert Picardo
This is a decent episode with good character moments and performances.
The Doctor is my favourite character and this story has a great premise. Alzheimer's disease is a prevalent condition in my family and Robert Picardo captures some recognisable traits. Additionally he plays Zimmerman superbly well to complete and impressive double performance. Kez and Torres also contribute well to the story.
There is little of interest to me in the technobabble heavy sub-plot and if I watch it again I might even skip the bridge scenes entirely.

- TriviaMade obvious in several scenes in this episode (and Virtuoso (2000), for that matter), Robert Picardo, the Doctor, is an accomplished singer. While he was at Yale University, he was a member of the Society of Orpheus and Bacchus, the second longest running undergraduate a Capella group in the United States. Then in 1977, he made his Broadway debut. He appeared in Gemini (1977) and Tribute (1980).
- GoofsThe Doctor somehow remembers Jupiter Station, where his program was created. It was previously established that he was not brought online until he was installed on Voyager and has no memories prior to being activated onboard. While he may have an awareness of Jupiter Station, he would not have memories of it.
Correction: The Doctor said his first memories of Voyager was the day he was brought online after they were pulled into the Delta Quadrant, he never said those were his first ever memories. His program would not have been installed on Voyager without being tested first, so it's only natural he would have memories of being tested on Jupiter Station.
- Quotes
[Captain Janeway is about to enter a restricted part of space]
Tuvok: Would it affect your decision if I pointed out that encroaching on the territory of an alien species is prohibited by Starfleet regulations?
Captain Kathryn Janeway: No, it wouldn't.
Tuvok: Captain - you have managed to surprise me.
Captain Kathryn Janeway: We're a long way from Starfleet, Lieutenant. I'm not about to waste fifteen months because we've run into a bunch of bullies.
