    My heart

This episode hit me right in the feels, the desperation, the heartache, the character development. It all worked so well. Great acting and a very interesting resolution.

    Boring

If you've seen one "surviving the cold" story, you've seen em all. I'd rather have seen more fighting with the Gou'ld. Tired of every planet being woodsy, even the Gou'ld worlds are woodsy, snowy isn't an improvement. An episode or two ago we got some advanced people, but we didn't really get a good look at their advanced world. I hope the budget gets better in the later years.

    the best of series 1

This is for me what SG-1 should be. A series taking place in space with mission that are solved with difficulties. Th e entry 1.15 and 1.16 were laughable and even a bit boring sometimes and I started to ask myself what the hype was and still is surrounding SG-1. But by viewing this episode I'm back on track.

When SG-1 arrives on a mission on P4A-771 they are immediately under fire from Goa'uld troopers. No hesitation and they enter the stargate to return to base but only Teal'c and Dr. Daniel Jackson return but not only that, the stargate is damaged too. Out of order as it is Captain Carter and Colonel O'Neill are awakening on a icy planet. But due the damage of the stargate they are hurt too, the Colonel has a broken leg and rib. Nothing seems to work and they are on their own. Excellent from that moment on with a few good jokes when Carter is sharing the bed with O'Neill. You see it coming, is it your gun or...A rescue mission has to be sent but were are they?

Suspense and good effects once we see the icy planet. This is what it should be. I admit, it's a low budget series but here they show that it can be done.

    • Trivia
There is an outtake where Amanda Tapping (Carter) breaks the fourth wall when berating Richard Dean Anderson's character (O'Neill) for not knowing how to get out of their predicament even though he (the actor) was MacGyver. Anderson, of course, was already famous as the star of MacGyver (1985), in which his character always found ways out of danger using unconventional and resourceful means. This outtake is included in the Season 1 DVD extras.
    • Goofs
The SGC received SG-1's iris code prior to the sound of the gate activating, which would be impossible, since no transmissions could come through prior to the gate activating.
