    What?

I kept watching so that I could make some sense of this story. I even replayed it, assuming that I had missed something. I hadn't. It was simply a terrible story with loose ends and no explanations. A terrible waste of time.

SUPERNATURAL: Mr. Nightingale {TV} (Alan Cooke, 1977) **1/2

Coincidentally, the viewing of this one followed a couple of Sherlock Holmes movies, since its leading man (Jeremy Brett) would later become synonymous with the part on British TV! His role here is of a staid English gentleman staying with a German family during a business trip, but which is disrupted by his gradual yet complete change in character (seen over a number of dinner engagements) into a most disagreeable, even maniacal sort!; this unexpected behavior on his part, however, pleases a pretty young woman (Lesley-Ann Down) also in attendance and who seemed stifled by convention. As in the "Countess Ilona" entry from the same series, events are told in flashback to the members of a club by the now-aged and eccentric protagonist; it turns out that Brett is being possessed by an evil doppelganger! The rather talky and uneventful narrative, along with the sheer despicable nature of the 'transformation' assumed by the titular figure, does not easily translate to entertainment this time around but Brett's vivid characterization keeps one watching nevertheless.
