Kon Ducki

As a child, "Kon Ducki" was one of my favourite episodes. 'Tiny Toon Adventures' has always been an animated classic to me, while not always understanding what was being referenced and parodied due to not being familiar with the referenced/parodied material it has always been incredibly funny, clever and well made with memorable characters. Reminding me of classic Looney Tunes. "Kon Ducki" is a very Looney Tunes-like premise, one that is ingenious, and even as a child it felt reminiscent of classic Looney Tunes.

It still is to this day as a young adult one of my favourite 'Tiny Toon Adventures' episodes. Except it is one of those episodes that is even better today, due to being now familiar with what is being referenced and parodied, what the ingenious premise was doing and getting more out of the humour due to understanding it more consistently. "Kon Ducki" simply put is a fantastic episode that is a must if you are a fan of Plucky, as he is one of the show's best characters in my view this was right up my street.

"Kon Ducki" is very well animated for one thing. It is typically vibrant, the drawing is crisp and smooth and the backgrounds show a loving eye for rich detail. Every bit as good are the expressions and reactions of the characters, wonderfully exaggerated and looney. The music is hip and infectiously characterful and the theme song has yet to get old, one of the best animated theme songs of the 90s.

The writing is spot on, some of the funniest and smartest of the show in a while. 'Tiny Toon Adventures' did have a long period where it did become hit and miss but it really upped its game with the previous few episodes and this. The film within a television show concept was an inspired concept in the first place and its execution in "Kon Ducki" is epic in its wackiness and is very imaginative and hilarious.

Have always gotten a major kick out of the making of segment, as well as the part with Hamton cast as a stunt double (a recipe for disaster). The whole expedition is hugely entertaining. The episode suits Plucky perfectly, despite being egotistical and suitably inept in the role he plays here it is hilarious to watch and one doesn't hate him too much. All the other characters are strongly done too, particularly Hamton, and the character interaction is spot on. The voice acting is excellent, the much missed Joe Alaskey embodying Plucky's strong, manic personality.

In summary, fantastic. 10/10.

This is my third favorite episode of the show, it's Plucky Duck at his best or worst depending on how you look at it. I really like how the film is divided into two parts, where the first one we see Plucky's epic film. Another is where we see the making of the movie.

The first part we see Plucky's epic film and well all I can say is it's a movie. This film is just hilarious from beginning to end. This was a parody based on the historical explorer. What makes this even better is the fact this explorer is an alumnus of my collage "Pacific Lutheran University" so this episode was a cool nod to the PLU community. Anyway, back to the matter, really like the beginning credits of the film where we see just constant big bold titles of Plucky Duck's name, I thought "wow, egocentric much."

Let just say if you ever go on an expedition make sure you're not in Plucky's group as this guy isn't even close to being a novice. It's funny as we see he gets his dates mixed up as he makes his boat based on the historical explorer's expedition in 1977 and he makes the raft with some 70's relics from a car in the middle (surprised the raft could actually hold the automotive at all). 8 track tape of each group that were popular at the time and have now broken up, as well as what Plucky's disco outfit.

The expedition of course just goes from bad to worse, it's funny because some of those troubles he goes through are easy fixes and were most of the time his own fault; once again showing how Plucky can be smart and yet not. Really liked the scene when he keeps passing and taking the Captain position to either escape blame or steel credit, though seeing Hampton in the Captain position he no doubt made a better captain. Even one scene when Plucky just completely loses it, thinking he was way in over his head and ego as the expiation doesn't quite go his way.

The second part is the making of the movie which makes things even funnier on the making of his movie. We hear the fact that he didn't even read the autobiography he based his book on which explains a lot of things, though this could be a little referenced joke to Jodorowsky's making of "Dune" as he supposedly never read the source material when trying to make his vision of the story.

We see some of how troubled Plucky's production of his film truly is, from some of his not so hot directing or lack thereof. There is a hilarious scene where poor Hampton once again is made to do Plucky's work playing the stunt double (as if he's really convincing) of him in one particular scene where he has to mutter the three most deadly words "Ah, Mango Juice." And constantly get wacked by a falling bast repeatedly, it's more takes on one scene than in Kubrick's making of "The Shining".

This episode is an epic of epic proportions, well sort of.
