A Death by the Sea

A midnight swim turns into disaster for Van Teeseling, who's found half drowned on the shore, his wife nowhere to be found, believed dead. Van der Valk suspects foul play, but Van Teeseling has powerful friends.

New series, new opening credits, but the same quality feeling. I'm assuming there was a budget increase, it somehow feels a bit sharper, it's a little more polished in appearance.

This is an excellent episode, they pulled out all the stops to kick off the second run with a bang. It's an intriguing case, and The great Detective is blocked by people in power.

Very good performances throughout, the wonderful Patrick Allen as you'd expect is the standout, a man with real presence and a terrific voice, he was terrific here. I really liked Johanna Dunham too, very good.

One iconic scene, what could be more appropriate than seeing Van der Valk on a bicycle in Amsterdam, great moment.
