Eric accidentally unleashes a horde of giant, highly irritable ants, and the group is saved by a race of tiny fairie dragons. The children quickly bond with their new rescuers and agree to help them find their missing queen, who's being held captive by an evil king.
There's some debate over which episode officially aired last, but for my own purposes I'm treating this as the finale (Requiem aside). With The Winds of Darkness giving us no Venger, it didn't feel like the right ending - and unfortunately, he's absent here as well.
This is a sweet episode, though. The fairie dragons are genuinely charming, and thankfully nothing like the friendship-wielding fluffballs from The Traitor. These ones are far more interesting.
It's good to see Presto continue to grow, with his magic becoming more help than hindrance. The animation is strong again, and the dragons themselves are nicely realised - they'd probably have made rather good toys.
It's a shame the third series is so short. You can sense the budget tightening, but despite that, the team produced a very solid run of episodes. The Cave of the Fairie Dragons isn't a classic, but it's enjoyable.
7/10.
