The travellers are asked to help track down a series of missing children, snatched in their sleep by a mysterious creature known as the Night Walker, and taken to the eerie City at the Edge of Midnight. They're aided by a kindly adventurer searching for his own daughter, Aisha.
The show is in something of a purple patch here, with the writing team delivering another incredible script - this is yet another epic adventure. The opening sequence is fantastic, a father watching in horror as his young son vanishes into the floor beneath his eyes.
It's nice to see Eric behaving in a somewhat heroic fashion - he's definitely growing as a character. We also meet Jimmy Whittaker, the adventurer that could have been, and Ramuud, a swashbuckling hero who's noble, brave, and wonderfully avuncular. It's nice for the kids to have a figure like that around them for a change.
The depth once again is off the scale - a vast, epic adventure filled with mystery and magic, but with real heart too. The moment where Ramuud embraces Hank is genuinely touching; there's more emotion in that scene than in most modern series combined.
Epic (again!)
10/10.
