Joe Rogan: Live

This is straight stoner comedy. Really funny if you're in to that kind of stuff. Still good if not.

I laughed more at the user review that wrote that he was a phenomenal social commentator and even a philosopher than I did through the hour of Rogan's stand-up. And I love raunchy humour, I like Rogan's podcast, but I don't think he's cut out for stand-up comedy. Another reviewer compared him to Bill Hicks (!), which is mind-boggling. I know this is 13 years old, but it feels a lot older; it hasn't aged well at that. His material feels like it's maybe made for an audience who feel Dane Cook is too intellectual.

From his unorthodox ideas for peace in the Middle East to debunking the myth of Noah's Ark and appreciating the vastness of space - all of the energy of a live Joe Rogan performance is captured on "Joe Rogan: Live"! This is my first experience with Rogan's standup. I knew him from "Fear Factor" vaguely, and much more so from UFC. Why he is even a part of UFC is beyond me, but that is a whole other subject. As far as his standup goes, he has the right idea.

His language is crude, and those who do not like "blue humor" should avoid him. But he does have some interesting observations and thoughts, and you can tell that behind that rough exterior is someone who has more than a few deep thoughts. Even the Noah's Ark bit, which is not necessarily all that original, still has some clever aspects. What if anyone else had a boat?

Joe Rogan's whole act is profanity laced with bile. He is a pot smoker who entered Fear Factor, thinking it was a joke. He said he would egg people on because he did not know how stupid people were going to be. The producers of the show he explained were going on the premise of playing pranks on unsuspecting contestants to see how far they will go. The level of evil involved is a little twisted. Mr. Rogan's special is just filled with the rants of someone who is too good for regular human beings. I found him to be offensive and his stuff can be heard by more talented comedians such as Eddie Murphy or Chris Rock. Rogan even does a five minute set on the N word. Overall, ignore this special.

If you are a fan of Bill Hicks you will love Joe Rogan. Joe Rogan is an avid psychedelic user, many people know this after his DMT rant on Jim Breuer's Sirius radio show. His use of psychedelics has given him a unique perspective on life and he includes this during the show in a very comedic and eye opening way. I know on the Netflix version he starts out explaining the earth as a living organism and humans as parasites. But during the show he goes into his theory on the pyramids, he talks about the universe and technology. While his views might be out side the box they are still quite interesting.

Aside from his comedic theories on life he has an interesting way of telling stories and is extremely descriptive and amazing with words. To me he is much more than just some comedian, he is a phenomenal social commentator and in a way even a philosopher.

For some people they might find him to be just some guy who swears and rants, but he does make some interesting points.
