    Groundbreaking drama.

In a small Scottish town, Allan Harper is accused of murdering and raping his sixteen year old, pregnant girlfriend Anne Laird. Julia Stafford is brought in to defend him, an unusual choice, to opt for an English woman to defend in a small Scottish court.

I don't think I've ever seen a below par episode of ITV's Playhouse, I should seek out more of them, Justice is a Woman is yet another classic, a groundbreaking episode.

The story is excellent, one that would hold up even now, it must have shocked audiences at the time, some of the content would have been unusual for the time.

Worth remembering that this was put out in 1969, attitudes and society in general were so very different, nothing like the world we live in now.

Lockwood puts in a great performance as Stafford, she is commanding, forceful and persuasive, impressive all round. John Laurie clearly enjoys playing the judge, as does the wonderful Iain Cuthbertson.

Elizabeth Knight, who played Valerie is recognisable from a couple of the Carry on movies.

    A Gem.

    8/10.
