Goofs

The Shape of Things to Come

Lost

Edit

Continuity

In the opening scene on the beach, Jack opens a suitcase and looks inside. On his left forearm, a red and blue tattoo is clearly visible going down beyond his elbow. One cut later the tattoo is not there anymore.
When Ben appears in the desert for the first time, he appears laid on his back on hard cracked ground. In the next shot, however, he is shown raising himself up off a completely sandy surface.
As Ben enters Widmore's building, he leaves a door open. However, when he enters the lift, we can see at the back that both doors are shut.

Factual errors

Regarding Martin Christopher Keamy, First Sergeant, United States Marine Corps; one does not EVER make First Sergeant (E-8) in five years service. Staff Sergeant maybe, but not the second highest senior enlisted rank in the Marine Corps.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

Jack says he has a stomach bug and therefore takes some antibiotics, but antibiotics do not work if someone has a stomach bug.

Not a goof: Jack implies that he has (or lies that he has) diarrhea, as evident by Kate's comments "You should eat some crackers" and "I thought your gut was sick". In selected diarrhea cases, antibiotics are indeed prescribed.

Revealing mistakes

When Ben is watching the TV in the hotel and Sayid's name shows up in Arabic at the bottom of the screen, the Arabic is typed wrong and his last name is misspelled. Most Arabic letters are connected together to form a word, while on the screen each letter is disjointed. The first 3 characters (starting from the right) is Sayid's first name and should all be connected as one, the last 4 characters are his last name (which is misspelled) and should say 'Jarrah', but instead says "Jaar[ah]" (which would mean "neighbor" in English when connected, altogether different translation of his surname). The 5th and 6th character should be swapped with each other and the last character is the wrong letter of the Arabic sound 'H.' Also, the second line under his name makes no sense, it seems like they were trying for it to read 'Oceanic 6' but misspelled the word. Some other trivial errors also exist throughout the episode wherever Arabic is typed.
In the desert when Ben kills the two men, the AK-47 he uses is clearly in the "safe" position. He would've needed to move it up into the "fire" position to actually use the weapon.

Character error

The desk clerk in Tunisia was wearing Hijab (scarf that Muslim women wear). However, the Hijab was illegal in Tunisia till early 2011, years after the episode was originally aired and even longer since its setting.
