This was a perfect combination for me as I like Renee Fleming and Sacred Songs and Christmas Carols always have given me great pleasure. I had a feeling that I would like Renee Fleming: Sacred Songs and Carols, and I was right. Liked even is an understatement. Renee Fleming: Sacred Songs and Carols looks absolutely beautiful in both photography and venue and the quality of the DVD does nothing to hinder that. The music is a great and very well-chosen programme, Ave Maria and Laudamus Te stood out, and orchestrated to suit the orchestra without cheapening the songs. The orchestra play wonderfully, and sound much bigger than their actual size, which is quite small. Other than the gorgeous Mainz Cathedral, which serves as the setting for Renee Fleming: Sacred Songs and Carols, the star is Fleming, looking classy as always. Her voice has the creamy warmth, subtle enthusiasm and sincere expression that we are accustomed to from her, and she is very elegant and poised in how she presents herself.
Overall, a yuletide treasure. 10/10 Bethany Cox
