George Clooney and Caoilinn Springall in The Midnight Sky (2020)

Review by avas-39053

The Midnight Sky

9/10

Nostalgia

I first saw Rudolph Maté's 1951 film When Worlds Collide when I was maybe 8 and it was then that I was first made aware that the world could possibly end, that space travel and other worlds was an idea. I've been a fan of sci-fi and apocalyptic movies ever since. The Midnight Sky may not be a sci-fi or apocalyptic movie, although there are elements of that and that's what made me feel nostalgic for the movie I saw when I was 8 and the way I felt. It certainly helps that I'm a father and that I saw Oppenheimer the day after while still thinking of Midnight Sky. Sure it leaves details out, I believe it's better for it, it leaves it to one's imagination. Those who felt it was "slow" probably need immediate and relentless action is my guess.

I feel quite strongly about this as this is my first review after years of lurking.
