It's a movie about Ajay Devgan
A unique lifetime event in India's soccer domain has been handled quite poorly.
Ajay Devgan, who plays Rahim Sir, India's coach, has too much of unnecessary coverage. The scenes are long and boring. He is shown to be a very brave and courageous person, but always looking for sympathy from the audience. "I am coughing blood. And again. And again." and many more such 60's style sympathy-generating scenes are there which are ineffective, and, irritating.
You need villains. So, we got a few. Instead of focusing on the players who played to win, the director is busy showing how bad the bad guys were. I don't know if these villains really existed or were created.
Another irritating fact was the two commentators who were really bad at acting.
Movies like 83 and Chak De India had emotions, ups and downs, and a bit of humor, but the focal point was always the event - the games. Not here. It's all about Mr. Devgan.
It will be a great movie if you cut 30 minutes out and put some true events. For example, I read that two Indian army personnel were watching the game in midst of a hostile crowd and that they fought with the guys who were insulting India.
