Love, Victor (2020)

Review by csparbs

Love, Victor

6/10

Could be more realistic...

It's a cute show and I'm glad to see some lgbt content in the mainstream. That being said, it's unfortunate that the characters don't really represent the usual gay person. Most of us would have loved to be like the main character in real life. He's a really heteronormative version of a gay person....or maybe he's bi.... i haven't got that far. However the other character that is confirmed gay is the straightest teenage guy that I've seen. Usually we have to learn to love ourselves for those things that separate us from straight society. Let's face it, threes two guys would've gotten along just fine in high school. I also get the feeling that these characters aren't gay in real life. It's unfortunate because there are thousands of gay actors who could've gotten this role and helped to show the real experience. I'm just disappointed that there isn't more realistic portrayal on tv of the experience I've had. Might just be a me thing, but it factors into my feelings about this show. I wanted to like this, and so far I do, but the unrealistic version of gay teens is a big factor in the rating I gave. This could almost just be about a straight guy and it wouldn't have to change at all. I'll appreciate this small step in the right direction, but I'm still waiting to more.
