"Partners in Crime" brings a whole new dynamism to the series, demonstrating what fans have always known...that "Doctor Who" is capable of changing every few years. From the pleasingly re-energised starting sequence which harks back to the time-tunnel of earlier Doctors to the climax, every scene in this episode was a delight.
Providing welcome comic relief to the series after the doom-and-gloom of the last few tales, this opening to "Series 4" has fantastic chemistry between Tennant and Tate, another appearance from the television legend that is Bernard Cribbins, and a wonderfully comic turn from Sarah Lancashire.
Tennant reminds me a little of Bruce Campbell, with his energetic, enthusiastic and wide-eyed portrayal of the Time Lord. He's clearly extremely comfortable in the role and I dearly hope he decides to stay around for quite some time, no pun intended.
The effects in "Partners in Crime" are largely first class and the latest alien creation, the Andipose, are the cutest beings yet to appear in the long history of the series.
9 out of 10. I haven't had so much fun watching an episode of "Doctor Who" for quite some time. Marvellous family entertainment.
The funniest scene is when Doctor Donna completely miss the part where they are both in the office in the same building and in the same place. Both Catherine Tate and David Tennant bringing so much energy into the role, which is always fantastic to see. And this episode starts of the success of the siries. Which in my opinion, is the absolute best season. And Doctor who is top in terms of Hot topics right now, regarding the 60Th anniversary, so why not jump the boat and rank my favourite siries of the show.
The Episodes premise is Donna trying to reach out to find the doctor, "A Mate". She then investigates these weird strange pills. Ounce the pills go out large into the city, a button is pressed. And people start going mad, and start acting very strange. It's a classic 'invasion of Earth' type story. Which Doctor who does to fantastically well at, old and new. Another couple of funny scenes is the mirror scene when Doctor Donna see each other, where they are basically in the same proximity of each other. Also what's great and light hearted is that Wilf completely misses what's going on around him.
Wilf is a delight. He was a great companion in his short run with the Doctor. Who knows though we might even get to see him in "Wild Blue Yonder" or "The Giggle" as it would be great to see him again. Brilliantly portrayed by Bernard Cribbins. And he brings such an electric performance, full of energy and very bouncy. Which is also what makes this siries of Doctor who so great. So all in all a fantastic siries. Now time for my verdict.
Verdict,
8/10 A Fun duo, and a great start to the Best Siries of New who. Which this review marks my #100 th review of this account. Which makes 256 in Total. Just added in for a bit of context about me. Great Episode, full of fun and energy!
I know it has a slight CBBC feel to it with regards the Adispose, they are so damn cute, i'd still love to have one.
As likable as Martin Ball is playing Roger Davey, could they not have got a chunkier actor, he's tiny :-)
Love Donna's insults towards Martha, who fancied the Doctor, mad Martha, charity Martha...... Martha suffered from the Rose hangover, that would not be Donna's fate. I love how she bamboozles him.
OK so it's not the best story, and there are some elements that belong to the Mr Tumble show, but the characterisations are superb, Sarah Lancashire is great, Sylvia Noble is fun and Bernard Cribbins is an absolute joy, but I will forever love Partners in Crime for giving us Donna, to this day my all time favourite companion, I long for her return still!! She proved so many people wrong, she had the lot.
That little glimpse of Rose made my heart sink, it changed the mood, what a clever shift in gears, and how pretty does she look!!!!
Flawed but tremendous fun 8/10

- TriviaDonna Noble was supposed to be a one-off character. Russell T. Davies was impressed with Catherine Tate's performance in The Runaway Bride (2006), that he decided to bring her back as a regular companion in Series 4. When they asked her to return, they didn't expect she would agree and had already written a different companion and chosen an actress to play her, only waiting on Tate's official denial to move forward.
- GoofsThe security guards shoot away the lock on the door, which they then kick down with no real effort. But the door would still be held in place by the hinges - they don't kick it with enough force to rip the hinges out, and even if they had, we can see that there's no damage on the hinge side of the door anyway to demonstrate their forcible removal.
