Bob Odenkirk in Saul Gone (2022)

Review by SeventhirtyseveN_737

Saul Gone

Better Call Saul

10/10

Saul Gone

What more is to be said about this show that hasn't been said already? When Better Call Saul was announced I, like probably many others, thought it was gonna be a comedy. A lighthearted show to balance its dramatic ancestor. Saul in his gold days getting silly prisoners out of silly situations, a show that one could watch at the end of a day to have a laugh.

Well... the first episode airs and the first scene immediately tells you that this "it's not gonna go down the way you think it is", like our friend Mike puts it.

We see a broken man starring at a television screen. Saul, or Gene is working at the Cinnabon like he predicted in Breaking Bad and everything is mute, colorless, except what's on tv. We then get sent back to the past and we see a man that had it all. A loving partner, a good house and a stable job. A completely different person. How did he end up there? The moment the first scene from the first episode is shown to us we know this won't be a fun ride.

Every season had its peak and the show kept getting better. When, when will Saul appear? Well, we asked for it and we got it. And again, it was not what we expected, at all. We got more than we ever asked for, and we loved it. The way Better Call Saul tied into Breaking Bad and the new layers it offered to each character was nothing short of spectacular. It's a show that not only stands strong as a standalone, but it's also a show that, by acting as both a sequel and a prequel to Breaking Bad offers us a new way to look at this latter one. It solidifies it harder still and it does so not in a forceful way, but in a way that lets the viewers know how much love was put into it. We get a Dostoievskian ending, pairing well with the ending of Crime and Punishment and it just feels right. All of it.

The absolutely flawless cinematography with drop dead gorgeous shots, the perfect acting paired with the immaculate writting brings us a lifetime experience that I will never forget. I will never look at Breaking Bad the same away nor the actors that were involved in this universe and I am thankful for it. Having the privilege to watch this series unfold and being here for the finale together with such a great community of fans is something one can only dream with a television series. It's simply as good as it gets. Thanks to eveyrone involved in creating this amazing universe over the course of all these years and I hope to see more works from the writters in the future!
