    Simply agonising. Awesome series finale.

The Shepherd uses another poor victim to do his dirty work, taking a life, she is challenged, and takes another... Boyd focuses his attentions, and is remorseless in finding the killer, and issuing justice.

I sobbed when this went out, I literally went cold Rewatching it, it's one of the saddest pieces of television I have ever seen, totally heartbreaking. I'm watching this for the first time since it went out, not far off twenty years ago.

The death would live with Boyd, and shape him for the remaining years this show would run for. His temper, personality, mood and outlook would change immeasurably from here on in.

The end of the classic episodes, from here on in we'd lose two of our seasoned regulars, both would be replaced, the show would continue.

The acting is outstanding, the regulars are all first rate, their reactions are very human, each plays their part to perfection. Trevor Eve, the man is just simply a legend!

    Tragic, but incredible, 10/10.

    Brilliant finale.

I've been watching the series for the first time and I've got to say season 4 has been my favourite so far.

Boyd with a beard. He really suits it. He's also shown that he has flaws, errors in judgement, lets his personal views get in the way but my God can Trevor Eve act.

The regular cast ably support him too. Sue Johnston plays serious so well and it's a great change to see from her role in the royle family.

These last two episodes have been my favourites to date. Well written storyline and superb acting. They all give it their all throughout and pretty much show every emotion possible.

    10/10 for sure.

(at around 46 mins) The final scene is of Boyd writing "MEL." on the evidence board. However, this was already seen on the board in a close-up shot, when the team realized that Adam Duke should have been a suspect.
