I recently watched The Last Resort (2009) on Tubi. The storyline follows a girls' trip to Mexico that includes a bride-to-be and her bridesmaids. One night, one bridesmaid goes home with a boy she met, while the others decide to let her have her fun and go on without her. The bridal party ends up kidnapped, abused, and left for dead at a haunted resort. Meanwhile, their friend and her new boyfriend head out to find them-but is it too late?
This film is directed by Brandon Nutt (Hijacked), in his directorial debut, and stars America Olivo (Friday the 13th, 2009), Paulie Rojas (The Witches of Oz), Marissa Tait (The Bold and the Beautiful), and Arianne Zucker (Days of Our Lives).
This is one of those movies that, with a better cast and writing, could have been solid. Unfortunately, the acting is very inconsistent, especially from the villains, who didn't feel authentic at all. The dialogue is very hit or miss, leading to some eye-rolling moments that feel made-for-television. Even the sex scenes could have been better and felt off. It's a shame because, once you get to the conclusion and have completely given up on the picture, the ending is actually pretty good.
In conclusion, The Last Resort is a movie that, with better execution, could have been worthwhile, but unfortunately, it misses the mark. I would score this a 4/10 and recommend skipping it.

Two days in a row I've been burned by DVD artwork. There are no scenes of a sexy woman in a bikini anywhere in this movie. Why do these movies portray scenes on the DVD art that do not exist anywhere in the movie? It's bait and switch! The acting was mediocre, and the story line was just dumb. The "club" was not believable. It wasn't playing music you would expect to hear at a tourist club, and there were about 7 people there. This movie is so low budget they couldn't even afford to pay enough extras to fill the club. And why cast good looking women if you're not going to show any skin?? Even if they don't have nudity, at least give us them in bikinis at the beach. You may have well cast 5 dudes instead. Girls partying in Mexico and not even a bikini shot??? Who are the idiots who make these movies?? The story line is loosely played out, and it's up to the viewer to figure out what exactly is happening to the girls at the resort. The idea is good, but not done well in any shape or form. A terrible movie. DO NOT RENT!!!
When a group of girlfriends on a bachelorette party in Mexico get stranded out in the desert, they find themselves seeking shelter in an abandoned shrine built by a deranged madman and his psychotic followers and slowly find themselves succumbing to the whims of the spiritual followers still residing there.
This turned out to be a pretty disappointing effort, mostly hurt by the fact that this one's so short it really can't get a whole lot in or explore the potential of it's ideas by it's brevity and extremely short amount of time actually at the location. The fact that the girls' out-on-the-town hijinks takes up the first thirty-forty minutes in a movie barely over an hour, which when coupled with the second subplot about the left-behind friend trying to rescue them, makes even less scenes in the location which compiles barely fifteen minutes of screen time, the majority of that coming from the rescue attempt at the end. That leaves us to see the results of what happened in the location but the desired actions, as the aftermath makes it look highly enjoyable had we seen it played out. With a weak back-story that's hardly explained and a decided lack of on-screen help from others beyond merely repeating the same thing over-and-over again, this one doesn't have a lot going for it.
Rated R: Graphic Violence, Graphic Language, Nudity and a mild sex scene.

I expect people to be able to distinguish movies and reality. Your next vacation will not end up like anything from this movie. Of course it is always good to look out for yourself and not being taken advantage of. But that is true for every part of your life. And many other situations that have nothing to do with vacation - or celebrating a friends engagement.
A girls trip of sorts. But one that is not going to end well ... for at least some of those who are involved. And as always there is a warning. Not that people ever listen to those. Anyway, it does take some time, but we do root for America Olivo. Yes God bless America (sorry for the pun and I can only imagine she is sick of that joke) - not everything works actually, but this is a horror movie. All things considering this is decent overall - if you are into horror movies that is.

I just rented this movie from the Redbox today and I must say that if you are looking for a good movie to pull up a blanket and a pillow to cover your eyes with this is NOT your movie!!!!!!! But if you are looking for a movie to pull up a blanket and a pillow to help you fall asleep to well then this IS your movie!!!! The acting is bad, the violence is dull and the script is horrible. I fell asleep 3 times during this movie. I was waiting for it to get better or at least watchable but it never got to either point. The length of this movie is barely just over an hour but it is an hour of my life that I want back. Hey, at least one thing good came out of it, I only wasted a dollar rental. Take my advice and DO NOT RENT and PLEASE DO NOT BUY this one!!! Lionsgate has many other films in their library that are passable but this is NOT one of them!!!!
