Frustrating, to say the least
I was already disagreeing wit hthe CGI animation, although it sorta grew on me, but not too much. The character design are still Ghibli at it's best, they look unique, they have personality, good to look at, the whole package. And while the body movements are stiff, the facial expressions are sometimes fantastic, and the hair animation they created felt really good too.
But the plot is where the movie found its flaws. Its from the same book written by Diana Wynne Jones, who also wrote Howl's Moving Castle, so the story HAD to be good, right? It wasn't. Overall, it felt WAY TOO SHORT. The movie had an amazing premise but threw it out of the window by narrowing things down to just 1h20m and having the plot move at snail-pace!
Honestly, if you want a great "Ghibli" movie about a girl entering a world of witches, watch Mary and the Witch's Flower by studios Ponoc!
