    McGee's verbal computer reader

McGee types in "The shy brown fox jumps over the lazy dog." Actually the phrase is, "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog." It's a phrase that uses every letter of the alphabet. I remember having to practice it over and over again in typing glass to learn the keyboard.

    The formula works

Checking out an older episode in syndication, I'm reminded of what made the show so fine. This episode has plenty of camaraderie among the regulars -authentic affection and hijinks plus lots of flirting.

The formula of creating a murder mystery with that counterpoint is the secret -two sources of interest to hold one's attention trading off with each other. And as the crew search the victim's apartment, their investigative skills alternate with cute banter -humanizing the characters while still advancing the story (and its clues). It's not a comedy episode, but the balance is definitely skewed in favor of comedy.

Now the current edition suffers by comparison -mostly from the lack of cast chemistry. Cole and the other regulars have talent, but their interaction has not been developed and we don't care about them.

It may be a coincidence, but even the opening credits list shows that everyone's left the show except the last 3 in billing: McGee plus Rocky and McCallum. The stars are sorely missed.

    Seriously?

Abby collecting forensic evidence looking for who stole her cupcake is over the top. An excellent example of wasting government resources and money for a personal crusade. Sure, it's only a TV show, but the Abby character can be very over bearing at times.

First time NCIS has been credited with an arrest of a suspect in the news. Before it was always "Federal Authorities."
    • Goofs
Dinozzo comments on the .32 S&W kit gun, saying that it's the same gun carried by Bogie in The Maltese Falcon (1941). Apart from the brief intervals when Sam Spade (Bogie's character) relieves Joel Cairo of his .25ACP Colt 1908 pocket auto in Spade's office and, in Gutman's hotel, relieves Wilmer Cook of his pair of .45ACP Colt 1911 autos, Spade does not carry a gun, much less a revolver.
