Glen Powell, Anthony Ramos, and Daisy Edgar-Jones in Twisters (2024)

Review by steeleronaldr

Twisters

8/10

Lack of star power

This movie (good I may say myself) though it suffers from the greatest entertainment plaque and that is the sequel. The first one "Twister" was a fun movie that had all likeable characters. I wasn't a Philip Seymour Hoffman fan but he was grand in it. The chemistry between the entire cast was off the charts.

This movie just doesn't compare and is what they wanted, a stand alone sequel. This movie does lack a few things that shows big time and they are.

1. Star power - not saying Glen Powell isn't a big star, he is and shines in supporting roles. He was most likely hoping this movie would be his breakout role. It probably could have had it not been for the new "Deadpool Vs Wolverine" movie that was released on the same weekend that has done broken the billion dollar mark. This movie just wasn't strong enough to compete against it. The only name I noticed other than Powell was Maura Tierney and her role was small. The rest I never heard of. With all that said with the lack of star power it placed too much weight on the newer stars. I don't think that Glen Powell is ready to carry a movie yet. He's still looking for that one big role to come along. You can't use "Maverick: Top Gun" as that was Tom Cruise's movie.

2. Chemistry - this movie definitely lacks chemistry, on top of that none of the characters were likeable. In the first one "Twister" all the main characters were likeable. It's like they all fed off each other but in this one; it just isn't there.

3. For the two lead characters Kate (Daisy Edgar-Jones) and Tyler (Glen Powell) there is barely any inner active scenes together. Because of that it made it hard to root for them.

What the movie has going for it is again definitely CGI, effects and intense scenes of twister action. This movie also has a pretty good story to tell as well.

Now needing to break $400M and as of this post/review is about $67M to go. 200M budget and 200M promotion. I think it'll hit it with very little profit. Is it a good movie, yes, it keeps your attention and it definitely moves. It doesn't seem like a 2 hr movie which is why I give it 8 out of 10 stars. I'll probably even buy it once it comes out. Would I recommend it, well I don't think so but that depends on the person as well.
