It finally offers some tension and suspense.

Rak and Bauer force Kessler and his fellow Nazis to take action, but their lack of planning leads to mistakes.

The improvement in the series certainly continues, Kessler has ended in a much better way than it started. If only the first three episodes had been different, spent giving some depth to characters like Bauer, Rak and Ingrid, the trouble is by this point they just weren't interesting enough, only Kessler felt well rounded.

There has been a distinct lack of tension throughout, this sixth and final episode finally offers some of that tension, with a gripping, final showdown at The Hacienda, it's a pretty good conclusion.

Finally we learn who Rak is, and what has motivated her, it's an insight we needed right at the start, it felt like too little too late.

One observation, something that has bothered me, Kessler is operating as a successful businessman almost forty years on since the fall of Nazi Germany, Rose was 52 here, would it not have made more sense for them to have used an older actor? I know it's only a minor quibble, saying that Clifford Rose has been the standout for me.

A mixed bag, but overall I quite enjoyed this, 7/10.

    • Trivia
Kessler notes that the Communists are responsible for the deaths of 137 million people, making the Nazis' crimes look feeble in comparison. Natalie Chantrens made a very similar comment in What Did You Do in the War, Daddy? (1979), the never aired final episode of Secret Army (1977) which was also written by John Brason.
