PROLOGUE: "100 years ago the London hospital dealt with devastating poverty and disease in the East end. Then, as now, the London was the most advanced emergency hospital in Britain. 1 in 7 children died by the age of 5. Life expectancy was 4. Antibiotics and public funding by the NHS were still 40 years away. Guns and gang warfare were common on the streets."

EPILOGUE: "The Blind Beggar Gang operated out of the Blind Beggar Pub near the hospital until the 1920s."
