The Big Flower Fight (2020)

Review by juliekcreel

The Big Flower Fight

4/10

Mixed Bag of Talent and Talentless

Kristen VanWhatsHisName is just plain annoying, and the show spends waaay too much time featuring him and his innane chatter. He's the worst judge in the history of this genre. The hosts are good enough, and I thought Natasia was quite entertaining. The guest judges are superfluous. They're introduced with much fanfare, then forgotten until the end, when they're asked to play at critiquing the creations. That is, if they're allowed to get a word in edgewise, with Kristen yammering away. The contestants seem to have been chosen solely on their diversity, though they all have some degree of talent. Most are likeable, and I found myself rooting for a different team in each episode. There is a huge problem with pacing and editing in this show. Two teams aren't even introduced in the first episode! Great chunks of time are spent showing close-ups of contestants building contraptions and structures, but little time is devoted to their creative processes. I dislike the erosion of civility as the series progresses. It's as if the show's producers create drama and encourage pettiness. If this show is renewed for a second season, I hope there are significant changes made in the judge, editing, and tone. It could be a good show!
