Wil Wheaton, Brian Landis Folkins, and Amy Rutledge in Rent-A-Pal (2020)

Review by Shadowplayed

Rent-A-Pal

6/10

Not a horror film!

Seriously, I've had it with these "I feel it's this or that" tags. Let's give in to feelings but not factual state of affairs. Sure; a 90 min of deeply depressing, personal drama and a second of murder must mean this is a horror film? Ever try objectively judging a movie? Horror is NOT subjective! The genre has its rules and staples, if the situation gets unpleasant or freaky at some point in time, it doesn't automatically make it a horror film, people!

Dunno about others, but this is not the first time I've been duped and mislead with Imdb tags, like wtf people?

What we have here, a carefully constructed and highly depressing tale of loneliness and susceptibility to products that target lonely people, where the individual falls prey to various commercial predators that can push vulnerable targets off the edge.

When the thing finally unravels, we have a crime scene, but it's still drama/crime, please, whoever is adding tags to these movies, can you do us all a service and stay clear? I'm trying to do October a justice and watch horror whenever I can, and you're all wasting my time, thanks.
