After Sharkey's testy review of his recruits, Chief Robinson sits them down to talk about how to cope with their problems in their first few weeks being in the Navy. Recruit Shimokawa (Evan C. Kim) addresses how Captain Sharkey makes fun of him. He goes AWOL, leading to a conference with his father Mr. Shimokawa (John Fujioka) and Capt. Quinlan in which Sharkey defends his picking on all recruits to bring out the best in men. Sharkey gets a surprise from Mr. Shimokawa.
