Neither engaging nor inspiring!
This is a poorly written soap opera type police series with dreary characters, simplistic plots and a lead character that looks like someone's Nan. The supporting characters are uninteresting and also uninterested! They add little to the series. It's just a badly done, badly written series that could not last. The episodes do little to draw you in, and it is just a mindless watch that let's your mind drift off. Everything gets wrapped up nicely at the end of each episode, but if the episodes were more interesting, and the characters a bit more developed and with more depth to them, it may have encouraged me to stick with it. As it was, had to bail mid season 1.
Possibly the worst TV cop drama ever.
Poor Pauline Quirk having to work with this lot. Scripting was unnatural and awkward, the guy from The Bill (Wingett) needed to tone his overacting down about 60%, I had trouble remembering they were supposed to be police officers - the younger cast members were like work experience students. Just awful.
easy watch
I just finished season 1- it was good..not exciting, but good. You have to remember this is from the UK & they have a different take on cop shows & the amount of blood & violence- not like in the US.
This is just easy to watch, the stories are all different & things get wrapped up with each episode- you don't have to be rivited to the screen to follow the story line.
I found this series on Acorn-which is a UK produced subscription. I find lots of good things on the Acorn service.

Nicely written, easy watch
I just found this series, and I think it's delightful. The writing is good, as is the acting; there are several well known actors in it. The plots aren't complicated, but that's just what I need sometimes. The episodes are 45 minutes long, and the cases are wrapped up in each episode, perfect for some "comfort TV". By no means is this series "horrible" as one previous reviewer wrote. It's also nice that the lead actress isn't a beautiful young Hollywood type, but rather a real person; this is something I like about British series.
