    Great Thai Horror

Fortunate for me, Pattaya shows movies with English subtitles...

Thai customs makes Ghosts scarier than any other horror imaginable. For a westerner to take concept of this shows the ability of this film to give a plausible atmosphere to sustain belief in the fantasy presented - which was done well.

There are some humorous notes to offset the frightening scenes (as all horror films possess), but enough scare factor to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Personally I liked the ending; it was a little unexpected... And if you saw movies like the original "The Eye" or "The Eye 2" or "The Eye 10" then you probably would too!

    Phew... That was intense...

Phew... That was intense... Jump scares, tension, effects and plot twists, 'Coming Soon' has it all. It's not a horror film to ignore if you like the genre. One gets more and more appreciation for Thai filmmakers as they definitely know how to scare you.

The first 15 seconds of the film sets up the tone of the story and you know that it's not going to be an easy ride. One thing that struck me in particular is the scene construct that I noticed throughout the move. Familiar close up on the character with the villain in the background where we observe an unaware or suspicious look of the person. We know it's coming but we think there is still time to prepare. But then. Snap! Campera changes to POV and we see the perpetrator right there. A great recipe for a jump and a scare.

The spine-chilling scenes were mostly intertwined with 'not so scary', bordering on comical ones. The characters were slightly overacted and sometimes chucklesome. The cliché relationships took away a chunk of the splendidness of the film. However.

These imperfections were covered up with a great scare scenes set up, the perpetrators back story and the fact I couldn't sleep half of the night as I couldn't erase the death stare of the villain from my mid.

I will definitely take a break from the horror genre for a couple of days.

    Interesting horror movie...

Well, I will start out by saying that "Coming Soon" (aka "Program na winyan akat") is definitely a horror movie that proved to be entertaining and interesting. So if you enjoy Thai horror movies, then "Coming Soon" is most certainly a movie well worth checking out.

This was my second time of watching it, after having seen it back around the time when it was initially released. And while I had actually completely forgotten the movie, then it proved to be a movie that can be watched again.

The storyline in "Coming Soon" is one of ordinary regular horror, but at the same time then writers Sophon Sakdaphisit, Chanajai Tonsaithong and Kongkiat Khomsiri actually managed to put enough of a twist to the storyline so that the movie stood out and wasn't just another run-of-the-mill average horror movie.

I liked the twist to the storyline, and no, of course I am not going to give it away here. But it proved to be enough of an unforeseen plot twist that it was actually a nice reveal once it came about.

Visually then "Coming Soon" was a nice refreshing deviation away from the stereotypical horror movies, where you have a young girl dressed in a pure, white dress, with her long, black hair covering her face. Instead, you have a wrinkled, disfigured and deformed crone haunting the screen. And it worked. Oh yeah, it worked. Especially so, since the make-up department really worked their magic with the special effects and make-up.

The acting in the movie was good, and actor Chantavit Dhanasevi (playing Shane) carried the movie quite well with his performance.

All in all, "Coming Soon" is a good horror movie, and it is one that I can warmly recommend you taking the time to watch, if you have the time, and if you enjoy Thai horror movies.

My rating of "Coming Soon" lands on a six out of ten stars.

    This one deserves a 6!

I always say that if it is not that great, nor bad, it goes perfectly in the middle, so 5 it is! But Coming Soon did try to surpass its condition, therefore, I'll show my appreciation giving it a solid 6!

Why? Because I had fun watching it, some good horror elements, good use of the audio, an ending harder to anticipate than usual, overall, a nice time in front of the screen! So I wont give you any hints, with the exception of "Try It!" and thank me later, Coming Soon, may not be something everyone heard of, but it does not make it any less better than most such productions. Underrated, underground, unheard, does not translate into bad! Watch it, works perfectly for a night late horror!

    Cheers!

    Not that good

It has a semi-original idea and interesting enough setup but then doesn't really go anywhere interesting. Falls victim to the usual Asian tendencies for sappy relationships and sentimental nonsense. The CGI scares are fine but you don't care enough about the plot to get much out of it. Feels like they could only afford two main actors and filmed the rest in as few locations as possible. Our main duo then proceed to go on your stereotypical clue hunt where they progressively uncover what is meant to be a surprising and satisfying plot.

The whole thing just doesn't hold up 'cause of the corny way people act. It almost comes off more like a drama or low grade thriller than anything resembling horror.
