Rewatching 'The New Scooby Doo Mysteries' recently, most of the episodes still hold up well but there are episodes too that did little for me as a child that aren't much better now. Memories of "Doom Service" and "A Code in the Nose" were mostly positive, namely for the villains, but neither were seen an awful lot as a child. The former because the villain scared me a lot as a child on first watch and there was something about the type of premise for the latter that didn't completely click.

Both fare even better on rewatch. "Doom Service" to me is one of the better 'The New Scooby Doo Mysteries' episodes, with it having one of the stronger mysteries and the characters are still memorable. "A Code in the Nose's" premise clicks a lot more now, with the type of story being more appealing and easier to understand. Don't get me wrong, they were still good episodes when younger, just preferred other episodes. Of the single episode couplings, this is one of the better and more consistent ones.

"Doom Service" (8/10)- The animation is vibrant enough and the exterior scenery is suitably atmospheric. The music never came over as discordant with the action and appeals on its own, the intro is still catchy. The voice acting is very well done, especially Casey Kasem and Don Messick (Messick does panicked emotion very well and sounds suitably anguished). The setting is beautiful and atmospheric. Really enjoyed the eccentric supporting characters, one of the most inspired being the invisible dog Max (a quite unique sort of character).

The ghost of Ebenezer Overview was one of the few villains of the show to creep me out when younger, especially when in the hotel room. There is plenty of classic Shaggy and Scooby humour, goofy but endearing, like when making up the food order. The mystery is one of the show's stronger ones, with a classic older Scooby Doo quality. The perpetrator was not one of the obvious ones and the motive was not suspectable until towards the end. One of the more memorable scenes is the creepy seance scene, though the truth about the voice is the most predictable part of the episode.

Only one other criticism and that is the length. Like "Mission Un-Dooable", it did feel too short and would have worked better as 22 minutes. That way the ending could have been elaborated upon more, while the motive was a surprise it did get introduced too late and came out of nowhere.

"A Code in the Nose" (8/10)- Once again, it is well animated, scored and voiced. Code Finger is a very fun villain and the thing that stuck out at me the most when younger. Loved the spy setting, which was suspenseful and intriguing enough in atmosphere. The store clerk scene is one of the shows funniest, have always fallen about laughing hearing the code lines and how they are used whenever the episode was watched.

It is a bit thinly plotted though, most of it being an extended search for Myrtle with distractions. While the ending was a surprise and another thing that was memorable when younger, it did also feel rushed.

    Summing up, very good. 8/10.
