Stilted
RUTHLESS is a disappointingly cheap revenge thriller that tries to be like an old-school Seagal movie but fails miserably. The problem with it is that the story is thin on the ground and there's a heck of a lot of padding to stretch it out to feature length, leading to long sections where very little happens. Dermot Mulroney plays a white-collar worker whose daughter dies, sending him off the rails and on a spiral of revenge when one of his wrestling students is kidnapped. There are a few satisfying bone-breaking moments and Jeff Fahey in a stock villain role, but the action is thin on the ground and it all feels more than a little stilted.
