Trivia
The plot is loosely based on the "Kids for Cash" scandal in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania in which two Juvenile Court Judges sent more than two thousand children to two for-profit juvenile detention centers while getting kickbacks from the Youth Centers' owners. Many of the juveniles were from poor homes and had no prior criminal history. One of the judges involved received a 28-year prison sentence and the other received a 17 1/2 year sentence.

Goofs
In the final scene when Jeffries writes the word "CLOSED" on the lid of the case file box, in the first shot when he writes the the letter "L" it has a very distinct loop at the top and bottom of the letter. Then the camera cuts to a shot to show a close up of his face. When it pans back to show him finish writing the word "CLOSED", the letter "L" has no loops, indicating that the original lid was switched out for some reason.
