Madeline Westen
- FBI Agent Callahan: So, were you, um, were you planning a trip?
- Madeline Westen: Oh, no, no, I'm just... going out of town for awhile, you know.
- FBI Agent Callahan: No. No, I-I don't know. Is the answer, no, you weren't planning a trip; or yes, you're getting out of town?
- Madeline Westen: I'm going on a *day* trip.
- FBI Agent Callahan: And do you usually bring a pump-action shotgun with you on a "day trip"?
- Madeline Westen: Can't be too careful these days.
- FBI Agent Callahan: We just got some more news. There was an explosion in a hotel in Miami Beach.
- Madeline Westen: [incredulously as if to a fool] And you think Michael did that?
- FBI Agent Callahan: You're damn right I think it was Michael.
- Madeline Westen: *Why* would he want to do that?
- FBI Agent Callahan: You tell *me* why your son would want to blow up a hotel.
- Madeline Westen: He would never *do* that!
- FBI Agent Callahan: What, "He would never do that?" He did! Look at the file! You saw it already! Everything's there! It's documented!
- Madeline Westen: And these are all *lies*!
- FBI Agent Callahan: I saw it with my own eyes! I saw your son attack a police officer, Mrs. Westen! He nearly killed the man! You son shot at me! He tried to kill *me*! You live in fantasy world, lady! You have *no idea* who your son really *is*!
- Madeline Westen: [calmly] I know this: if Michael wanted to kill you, you'd be dead.
- Madeline Westen: [shouting] I know *exactly* who my son is! Now *back off*!
- FBI Agent Callahan: Last chance, Mrs. Westen. Do you really want to pay for your son's mistakes?
- Madeline Westen: [softly] He paid for mine.
- FBI Agent Callahan: You are under arrest. All right? Get up, put your hands behind your back. Up! Now!
- [last lines]
- [Madeline is sitting in an FBI interrogation room. Callahan enters]
- Madeline Westen: I've been sitting here for hours.
- FBI Agent Callahan: Yes, you have.
- Madeline Westen: Are you going to charge me with something?
- FBI Agent Callahan: Me? No. I'm off the case.
- Madeline Westen: What are you talking about?
- FBI Agent Callahan: I'm off the case.
- Madeline Westen: Where's my son?
- FBI Agent Callahan: Honestly, I've no idea. Know, we had him in custody for about 20 minutes, and then he was taken away.
- Madeline Westen: [gets up] He was here? You had him here?
- FBI Agent Callahan: That's right. And God only knows what hole he's in now.
- [Fade to black, to a man in shackles and a black hood taken in the rain into a quadruple security-gated facility under armed guard, then fade back to the FBI]
- Madeline Westen: What's that supposed to mean? He just disappeared?
- FBI Agent Callahan: Pretty much. I mean, before, I could have gone through official channels, but once someone is removed from our custody, there is nothing I can do. And that is *your* choice.
- Madeline Westen: You had him and you let somebody *take him*!
- Madeline Westen: [slaps him, twice, and grabs him by the tie] You did! You let somebody take him!
- FBI Agent Callahan: [gets her against a wall] You hit me all you want, it won't change a thing! He is gone!
- [Fade out and back to the unknown facility. The hooded man, shackled and chained, is marched down a hall and around a corner by two guards. Fade out and back to FBI as Callahan opens door]
- FBI Agent Callahan: [holding door open, gestures] You can go.
- Madeline Westen: [softly] How do I find my son?
- FBI Agent Callahan: I've no idea.
- [Callahan exits. Fade back to prisoner who is stopped, uncuffed, and unshackled. Finally, his hood is removed. It's Michael Westen. The guards exit. After a moment, he opens his eyes and, moving only his eyes, takes in his surroundings. He's seated in a comfortably furnished drawing room]
