    Character building for SGU

The first thing you have to do in any good series is to build a character base. Once you know who is who you then can go from there. The first season has built our little cast of characters. Now we can introduce them to aliens, big problems, and other life threatening situations. If they don't THEN they are in trouble! They have some good characters to build on and the beginnings of some good story lines to draw from. I personally would like to see them use some of our old tried and true characters from the other series introduced via the "communication" stones. Lastly it's entertainment that's all it is and it is 10 times 100% better than wrassling, ghost busting, or Japanese cartoons.

    Day's of your life!

What a total insult to the Star Gate series! No alien's, no space ship's, or the great adventure's that we used to get with Star Gate. Instead every episode so far seems to follow to script of a soapy series. If I want to see people carry on, cry, and their relationships start or end then I would watch Day's of your life. After watching most of the first season, and yes I am still hanging on as I think it has what it takes to be a great series, I feel very deflated. What are they thinking? They seem to have a half descent cast, good decor, and a great start to a story line, and still every episode stinks, lame and tame, and not anything like a SG series.

Please!!!!!!!!! Rescue this series before it sink's.

    continuation

So, I watched this next episode hoping to get a conclusion to the previous time travel episode, but instead we jump straight into a psych evaluation of the crew where not much of anything happened. I dont mind stretches of less happening in a series but its a complete disconnect. Maybe this episode created two universes?......

    Space Soap Opera?

What an odd combination of a soap opera, drama, and sci fi. Although paling in comparison to SG-1, it is mildly entertaining at points. I will award the show an A for effort, and a C for follow through. Great acting, great plot....appropriate for the genre? Meh. Not in the opinion of this writer. Generally a let down in terms of moving the Stargate story line forward, although it may breathe new life into science fiction with the inclusion of jealous romances, lesbians and psychotics that can swap bodies /sigh/. Is this a space Melrose place? How many good actors can you throw at a soap opera and still have it be terrible regardless of the context you present it in? Alex Chapple is trying to find out.

A new stargate for a new generation

For those who were expecting the original Stargate series i understand your disappointment with Stargate universe, but this show is not your typical Stargate series repackaged. Universe does not follow the basic formula of an sg-1 or Atlantis, it centers less around exploration and thrill and more on interpersonal relationships, survival, and drama. Brad wright and Robert c cooper writing is just as brilliant as ever. The acting from almost every angle is spot on, and Universes' intricate plot will keep you deeply entertained from start to finish. The show is a great work for what it is, but it must be regarded for what it is and not what it is not.

    • Trivia
When describing the catastrophic failure observed every time in simulations of Col. Telford's plan to dial the gate home, Eli says 'horrible death, fire and brimstone, dogs and cats living together' which is an abridged quote from Ghostbusters (1984).
    • Goofs
Actress playing CMSgt. Mooney who swaps bodies with Camille is way too young to be a CMSgt. The Stargate franchise seems to have a liberal approach to military ranks.

Lt. Tamara Johansen: [entering the room] I've completed 14 psych evals, I have eight more scheduled, and I think the rest of the ship's avoiding me.

      [Col. Young nods slightly]

      Lt. Tamara Johansen: What's wrong?

      Colonel Everett Young: Bad day.

Lt. Tamara Johansen: A lot of those lately, huh?

      [he doesn't reply]

Lt. Tamara Johansen: Hey, something else is bothering you. What happened?

Colonel Everett Young: This my psych eval?

Lt. Tamara Johansen: It can be.

      [a lengthy pause]

Lt. Tamara Johansen: Come on, talk to me.

      Colonel Everett Young: Bad day.

      [he leaves the room]
