Lovely views, not main characters
It takes a lot to make George and Julia unlikable, but this movie succeeds. The supporting cast are so much more interesting that I found myself hoping for ac sequel so they could bring the island and it's people and culture more into focus.
The acting is great and the scenery is fantastic, but the script never seems to make its case that the two parents are more than miserable cynics who can only have fun when they're drunk. Granted, that's probably a realistic premise, but it doesn't work for this movie.
Too much reliance on star power, not enough character development beyond the headliners.
