    Slipping

I saw this together with a show by Chappelle and had to marvel at the contrasting ways of presenting a self that you surround with jokes and how that creates the room.

Chappelle is laid back and slick, floats around in bemused observation, makes fun of what he knows to be the case; when he talks about racial disparity, it's without real surprise (for him or, he's pretty sure, for you) at what's going on in streets he knows.

Hart by contrast is over-eager, loudly crashes around from one situation to the next, makes fun of attitudes via making fun of how he looks, suburban rather than inner city; the recurring joke is that he's short and scared of macho thuggery but will indulge the role if he thinks he can get away with it.

Chappelle only sporadically puts himself in the thing, lets out of himself, whereas Hart is intensely about how the world confounds him and conveys that pull with manic hysteria. Only part of that is what comes out his mouth, the rest is in his body, face and how a narrator presents himself.

What I mean is that one of the funniest jokes here is about his family embarrassing him as a unit. Coming from Chappelle's mouth (or worse, Seinfield) who coolly floats around it would register as a bit callow and smug; coming from Hart it's a riot because he's already put himself in the world as an embarrassment to himself and to his wife.

So it's a bit one-note; he's short and not heroic. The gag with a vengeful ostrich or the story about white rafting in Tennessee that reveals an incidental indifference to human beings (both racist and not) are the kind of thing that is years in the making and meticulously prepared for you. But notice when you watch this how smoothly he slips into a character who slips.

    Almost Funny

Love most of the story telling untill the moment he used the word "f*g". Word is uncalled for and unnecessary.

THE BIRD RUNNING AFTER THE CAR

There is a Reason WHY I say the BIRD RUNNING AFTER THE CAR. If you WATCH the show you will understand WHY Lol. Anyways I LOVE at the End of the Show WHEN you went and got your LITTLE CHILDREN. It just shows how much of a HARD WORKER HONEST MAN YOU REALLY ARE. DAUGHTER IS ASLEEP AND SON WIDE AWAKE WITH A SMILE. AND THE DAUGHTER JUST WAS LIKE OK DAD TIME FOR BED.

LOL LOVED it I am a FATHER MYSELF and me and my Daughter. We BOTH love your work and seeing you LIVE. She is 23 YEARS OLD AND I AM 46 YEARS OLD. You will not believe how much you kept us in Stiches during the Bad times. Thanks for your work. I spent many days in a Hospital because of EPILEPSY BRAIN SURGERY. And we watched all your MOVIES, and STAND UP SHOWS. And LAST YEAR WHEN I FINALLY GOT OUT OF THE HOSPITAL. MY DAUGHTER TOOK ME TO A LIVE SHOW IN LONDON ONTARIO CANADA. FOR MY BIRTHDAY PRESENT IT WAS AWESOME. SPENDING ALL THAT TIME IN THE HOSPITAL. AND FINALLY SEEING YOU LIVE WAS EVEN MORE HEALLING THEN EVER. HOPE TO SEE YOU LIVE AGAIN.

    Take a Lesson

Kevin Hart is a master storyteller. I've enjoyed almost all of his stand up routines but this one remains my favorite. I wish all comedians would take a lesson from Mr. Hart. He never preaches or berates. He doesn't talk about politics which will inevitably only lead to alienating at least half the audience. He's just all about the funny. He's hilarious, and you never forget that fact by having to wade through mean rants or speeches. From the man-pigeon to his family, Mr. Hart delivers laugh after laugh with so much sincerity.

Surely great fun for someone out there...

While I am definitely familiar with Kevin Hart as an actor, then I have to admit that I have never watched his stand-up comedy stuff. So as I stumbed upon the 2009 stand-up comedy special "Kevin Hart: I'm a Grown Little Man" on Netflix here in 2022, of course I opted to watch it and see how Kevin Hart was as a stand-up comedian.

I have to admit that the contents of the show was somewhat of a swing and a miss for my liking, and "Kevin Hart: I'm a Grown Little Man" sort of fell short of providing me with much of any overly great entertainment or particularly great laughs. The comedy of Kevin Hart just didn't really match mine, so I didn't find the 73 minutes that the show ran for as being particularly enjoyable.

While I will continue to watch his movies, then I doubt that I will seek out more of his stand-up comedy shows after having witnessed this performance.

My rating of "Kevin Hart: I'm a Grown Little Man" lands on a generous three out of ten stars.
