Ajay Devgn, Shriya Saran, Ishita Dutta, and Mrunal Jadhav in Drishyam 2 (2022)

Review by chiragrathod09

Drishyam 2

10/10

"A Masterclass in Suspenseful Storytelling"

!! Possible Spoilers !!

Drishyam 2 is a gripping sequel that manages to surpass the brilliance of its predecessor. The film picks up the story seven years after the events of the first part, with Vijay Salgaonkar (Ajay Devgn) and his family living in constant fear of the past catching up with them.

The film masterfully builds tension from the beginning. The return of IG Meera Deshmukh (Tabu) as a more determined and relentless officer adds a new layer of complexity to the narrative. The fear and paranoia experienced by the Salgaonkar family are palpable, making the audience share their anxiety. The psychological warfare between Vijay and Meera is even more intense this time.

Vijay's character evolves into a more complex and morally ambiguous figure. His actions, while driven by love for his family, blur the lines between right and wrong. The film delves deeper into the psychological toll of the crime on the characters, particularly on Vijay and Nandini. Ajay Devgn's performance is nuanced, capturing the complexities of a man walking a tightrope between love and fear.

Tabu's portrayal of Meera is even more compelling in the sequel. Her character arc is well-defined, showcasing her transformation from a grieving mother to a relentless investigator.

The introduction of Tarun Ahlawat (Akshaye Khanna) adds a new dynamic to the story. His character is intelligent and observant, making him a formidable opponent for Vijay. Other supporting cast is good too.

The cinematography in Drishyam 2 is commendable. The film effectively uses visuals to create a sense of claustrophobia and paranoia, reflecting the characters' inner turmoil. The use of light and shadow is particularly impressive, enhancing the suspenseful and mysterious undertones of the story. The camera work is steady and focused, allowing the audience to fully immerse themselves in the narrative.

The music score in Drishyam 2 is an integral part of the film's suspenseful atmosphere. It seamlessly weaves into the narrative, intensifying emotional moments and creating a sense of unease. The background score is subtle yet impactful, building tension gradually and reaching a crescendo during pivotal scenes. It complements the characters' emotions and the overall tone of the film.

The screenplay is filled with unexpected twists and turns, keeping the audience guessing until the very end. The film's climax is a masterstroke, delivering a satisfying and emotionally charged resolution.

The film's climax is a masterclass in suspense. The unexpected twist involving the discovery of a skeleton and the subsequent DNA test turns the entire narrative on its head. Vijay's ingenious plan to replace the remains is a testament to his intelligence and resourcefulness.

The film concludes with a sense of closure for both Vijay and Meera. While Vijay's plan is successful, the emotional cost is evident. Meera, on the other hand, finds a sense of peace after immersing her son's ashes.

Drishyam 2 is a triumph of filmmaking, showcasing exceptional storytelling, acting, and direction. Film is a must-watch for fans of the thriller genre. It's a film that will leave a lasting impact on viewers.
