Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Tobias Menzies in You Hurt My Feelings (2023)

Review by jtindahouse

You Hurt My Feelings

7/10

Does a lot with very little

'You Hurt My Feelings' had no business being as good as it is. It's a film without a plot, and yet simply through some pretty good dialogue it not only stays afloat for 90 minutes, it flourishes.

I've always said, if you have good dialogue in your film then you can make any story work. This was about the best example of it I can remember - because there simply is no story. It's just people going about their lives with some minor bumps along the way.

Often in modern comedies - rare as they are - where the film is trying to do nothing other than make me laugh for 90 minutes, I'll find that I don't laugh once. And yet here is a film that I think was leaning far more towards the drama genre and it had consistently laughing throughout the run time. This movie was an unexpected little treat. 7/10.
