I remember it mainly for what it assumed about the average viewer...

that he/she would be interested in deep coverage of current events and also understand the title of the show!

Before Watergate, when people still actually believed what government officials had to say, before the 24 hour news cycle and CNN, there were shows like "First Tuesday" that were short-lived attempts to do what "60 Minutes" has been doing for fifty years. Unfortunately, First Tuesday didn't have Mike Wallace, who had a mission to forge a quality news show that educated and entertained, motivated by the untimely death of one of his sons, promising that in his memory he would dedicate himself to bringing quality information to the American people.

I remember this from when I was eleven years old. I was old enough to be interested in current events, not quite old enough to know what it was all about. I'd say that from my memories it was adequate for what it was trying to do but not a real stand-out. And the real gag? Back in 1969, when I was eleven, I actually understood the title "First Tuesday". Even though it wasn't just about politics, it was referring to the day we vote for president of the United States - the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. Today I wonder if the average 41 year old would know the significance of that phrase?

The first two seasons were hosted by Sander Vanocur. In January 1971, Garrick Utley replaced Vanocur as host. In October 1971, the show moved to Fridays and was retitled "Chronolog". The show returned to Tuesdays for its final 1972-73 run, reclaimed its original title, but was cut from two hours to an hour with no regular host.
