    My favourite Fringe episode

Rewatching Fringe after all of these years, this episode was especially poignant at the time. The regret that Walter feels is mirrored in the yearning of the key protagonist.

The dénouement is delicately acted. Beautiful episode.

    A touching episode. Amazing.

I see a lot of TV shows, practically everyone with an +8.0 rating in IMDb, so, took a time in my agenda to star viewing this show and I'm not disappointed, specially after this magnificent episode. Very touching, truly special this chapter and the performances and the development of all the characters of this show is getting better with each chapter. It's not easy to find a good sci-fi show with this kind of "feelings", and Fringe is capable to do that. I start to see this show because J.J Abrams was one of the producers and I need to hear the amazing compositions by Michael Giaccino (this duo on Lost was superb). I'm not usually do reviews on chapters, but this one deserve it. Excellent writing. Superb.

    Moving

It is not very often you will find a heart moving story in a sci-fi series.

While Fringe has had some of them at times, this episode by far, is the most remarkable and moving one.

While we witness Walter finds someone who can truly understands him ( mind you it is not very often - he can understand the grief he caused however not many examples that he was by others.) we also see a time travel story - not a unique idea but thinking how many of us wanted to travel through time to be with the ones we loved once, it fits all beautifully.

Every one of us has our regrets, been late to say something to someone we loved. Some of us wished to be long gone with the ones we love and miss.

Easier to say than it is done. We found ourselves in these pieces of art, TV series, songs, novels. We want to be understood and we want forgiveness.

That's why we loved this episode so much more than the others perhaps. Remarkable acting reflects whatever we want to have.

    We Struggle to Know

This is astounding work by writers who are infinitely talented. Once again, we have a man of great genius who has suffered a tragedy, something that could have been part of any of our lives. He is Walter's soul mate because they both have things they wish were changed. It just doesn't work that way. The religion discussion was as raw as anything I've seen before. Science battle religion but has the advantage of empiricism. Walter knows the cost, but he can't put it into words to help the man because he doesn't know himself. We are left with unanswered questions but that's OK because there is no way for these human entities to really address these issues. A great, great portrayal of the limits (and joys) of humanity.

    TV of the Highest Calibre

This episode is woven so cleverly around time travel, subtle detail changes and an emerging realisation. As ever with Fringe, there is humour along side the mind-bending story line but this episode also carries with it a whole world of emotion and is considerably well acted by all the cast.

There are actually two conclusions to this episode, the first regarding the time travel and the irony that goes with it and the second is about the humanity in all of us. It is very sad but ultimately satisfactory.

This is my second viewing of the series and I see things this time which I did not the first time around.

    Definitely a must watch!

    • Trivia
In many cultures, a white tulip represents forgiveness. It can also represent heaven on earth/perfection, making it an apt symbol for Walter.
    • Goofs
During the recurrent scenes where Peter Weller leaves the train ramp after his jumps, you can see at the right of the screen a subtle but visible Canadian flag on the window of another nearby stationary train.
    • Quotes

Dr. Walter Bishop: [to Alistair Peck] I, too, attempted the unimaginable, and I succeeded. I crossed into another universe, and took a son that wasn't mine. And since then, not a day has passed without me feeling the burden of that act. I'm going to tell you something that I have never told another soul. Until I took my son from the other side, I had never believed in God. But it occurred to me... that my actions had betrayed him and that everything that had happened to me since was God punishing me. So now I'm looking for a sign of forgiveness. I've asked God for a sign of forgiveness. A specific one, a white tulip.
