Leon Vance: Hetty...
Henrietta 'Hetty' Lange: Leon.

Special Agent Sam Hanna: Dom was abducted to exchange for this guy. And they didn't let us know they had him?
Leon Vance: There was a break down in the system somewhere.
Special Agent Kensi Blye: If we had known about this, we would've...
Leon Vance: It would have made no difference. Isn't that right Ms. Lange?
Henrietta 'Hetty' Lange: We don't negotiate with terrorists.

Henrietta 'Hetty' Lange: Ah the proverbial sound of someone tightrope walking across red tape.
Leon Vance: And falling.

Henrietta 'Hetty' Lange: You seem to be afraid to speak with me privately. Knowing damn well that I won't do this in front of my co-workers. Smart. But ultimately ineffective. I've suffered a lot of losses over the years, Leon. We all have.
Leon Vance: Yeah.
Henrietta 'Hetty' Lange: But the loss of one of my agents, I cannot withstand. Agent Sullivan was my first, and I swore my *last*. But swearing seems to have proven a hollow gesture, and I'm left with no choice.
[Hands Vance an envelope]
Henrietta 'Hetty' Lange: I thought I'd save Uncle Sam the postage.
Leon Vance: This isn't over Hetty.
Henrietta 'Hetty' Lange: Oh, I'm afraid for me it is, Leon.

Special Agent G. Callen: [about Hetty] She doesn't just keep things close to the vest. She actually sews them in a vest and covers it with kevlar. Actually thought she'd take it worse.
[Leon pulls out the envelope Hetty gave him]
Special Agent G. Callen: Especially considering what happened in '99 with Agent Sullivan. Maybe this time's different... I hope so. This place would fall apart without Hetty.
Leon Vance: ...That it would.

Leon Vance: This is the exact same letter of resignation you turned in when Agent Sullivan was killed. You just changed the dates. Pencilled in a new one. Hetty, this is unacceptable.

Henrietta 'Hetty' Lange: Proving one thing that I always suspected: that I am not cut out for this job.
Leon Vance: Hetty, you're more cut out for this job than anybody I've ever worked with.
Henrietta 'Hetty' Lange: No. I was never cut out for this. I just happened to have the capacity for it.
