Obviously there are some reviews that are horrific regarding the pilot.
Unless specifically requested or major changes are made between the pilot being canned & episodes bought, the budgets are (most often) paid for by individual(s) - thus the cheap "feel" to them.
They are made, then sent to companies (networks, steaming services, etc.) for the purpose of selling the idea & then getting orders for season(s). At this point, final cast changes can be made, & then production values are BLATANTLY obvious - i. e. The character of Nikki is changed for good & danny's partner changes (get used to this).
At any rate, the point is to NOT place ANY value in pilots. They will most often ALWAYS Abe noticeably different - anyone who says the pilot & then calls out all the failures - is insane.
I'm glad I didn't treat Seinfeld that way. Haha. Geeeeeeeeezous!

We are a class of English in France who watched the pilot of Blue Bloods. We are about 14 years old. Here is our review. The series Blue Bloods is a good detective series. The Reagan family is at the heart of the series and it happens in New York City. The actors' play is amazing in the series. Donnie Walhberg is fascinating, intelligent and astounding! it's a bit violent for a pilot yet thrilling. the episode is about the kidnapping of a 9-year-old girl. The series is particularly interesting because there is a lot of suspense. It is full of emotions because the pilot deals with a matter of life and death. It is stressing because it's a race against the clock. it is breath taking, we loved it.
This pilot episode of Blue Bloods serves as an introduction to the Reagan cop family of New York City. Tom Selleck is the current commissioner who lives with his father former commissioner Len Cariou. Two sons are on the job Donnie Wahlberg and Will Estes. And daughter Bridget Moynahan is an Assistant District Attorney.
The main plot line has Wahlberg as the investigating detective in a child kidnapping. He has to step over the line to nail his perpetrator and puts his own job in jeopardy. Fortunately he has a sister in the job she's in and she saves him and not by deepsixing the case either.
Estes has just graduated from the police academy and is partnered with Nick Turturro, no stranger to police drama being a regular on NYPD Blue for many years. He also gets a rather mysterious offer that will be the lead for a long running plot element for several episodes.
The first of several Reagan family dinners is held as well. It's a good beginning to the series.

What a cast!!! As soon as I saw a preview with Tom Selleck in it. I knew I'd be watching this pilot. And this one didn't disappoint. Tom really adds something to this otherwise fine cast. Thank goodness they didn't have to shift the locations to Toronto. There was talk of that when the tax credit law there expired. This show has a really good look to it. Very much like a movie. And the writing for the pilot was first rate. And the casting for the whole Reagan family is first rate besides Mr. Sellek as Frank Reagan, we have Donnie Wahlberg as Detective Danny Reagan, and Len Cariou as the patriarch of the family Henry Reagan. As for this episode this story was well written and moved along well. And while there are only a few ways a story like this can turn out, the thing that makes a good story is how the actors and writers get us to end. And this is a very enjoyable story. Wahlberg and Selleck stand out. But they are well supported. We have no way of knowing what his influence was on this project; but the effect Tom Sellek has had a numerous projects high quality projects in the past
It's high time for less Nicky, grandpa Henry.
Henry is AWFUL. He can barely talk, is obnoxious when he tries & stays on my last nerve. Terrible actor.
Nicky has become a Kardashian-sounding wannabe. She is able to find a spot on Henry's nerve that he has struck of mine.
Neither of them want to move on a la Linda, they'll stay forever. Ugh. They both are sucky actors - if you don't believe me, watch the episode where they sing & dance in that catastrophe known as a talent show. She basically screams her lyrics while henry's Top teeth only show. I don't think he has bottom teeth. Never seen them. They should've named him "buck".
