Randall Park, J.B. Smoove, Madeleine Arthur, Tyler Alvarez, and Kamaia Fairburn in Blockbuster (2022)

Review by alex-frey-pattaya

Blockbuster

5/10

Missed Opportunity

The script doesn't match the premise, it isn't very funny because it is written for a wrong audience and the characters have no character and lack any quirkiness a show like this desperately needs.

After the "Buy More" from "Chuck" and Superstore the developers had a pretty decent blue print how to write a show like this but they have utterly failed in any aspect. For some reasons they are using this retro promise to appeal to a younger audience, many of whom don't even know what Blockbuster is anymore.

This Series would have needed an older cast who are all a bit 80ies retro who constantly drop easter eggs in their lines from Movie Classics and give the viewer some sort of vibe of the past while the younger cast is battling them and loses in the end, the show would have had a routine that works before the comedy even starts.

Creator Vanessa Ramos literally was the story editor at Superstore and wrote 20 episodes for Brooklyn99, how is it even possibly that she fails so hard?

Sorry the show is really bad, 5 stars is very generous.
