Do you believe in miracles?
'A Christmas Miracle for Daisy' manages to be one of GAC Family's best films so far along with 'Much Ado About Christmas', their output has been a very mixed bag but some of it has been good and more and 'A Christmas Miracle for Daisy' is one of them. And one of the few to live up to its full potential and come close to exceeding it. It may not be a flawless film, have seen very few Christmas films or films in general that have fitted into that category, but it is one of the better ones seen in recent months.
Beginning with what could have been (a little) better, Perhaps a bit slow in the early stages, with it taking a while to get started.
Did feel too that the misunderstanding was on the predictable and forced side.
However, so much is good about 'A Miracle for Daisy'. It is very professionally filmed and the locations are simply beautiful. It isn't overscored, too constant or too loud, refreshing as this has been heard a lot by me overtime in film and television and it is tiresome really. The script is a lot less cheesy and schmaltzy than most Christmas films and did find it very sincere, very affecting and that it never sounded awkward. It is also not over-serious, with a light hearted-ness that was very appealing.
The story is gentle pace-wise but still engaging and heartfelt, it also warmed my heart and inspired me and handled a very personal true to life subject sensitively. The characters were worth connecting with and the film is well acted. Jill Wagner and Nick Bateman gave very honest and confident performances and can't wait to see more of Rubi Tupper, whose cute and natural presence makes for one of the better child acting performances in the past few months.
Summing up, very well done. 8/10.
The Christmas formula strikes again, with extra cinnamon sugar coating.
I'm not sure who to blame for this film: myself, Netflix, or the Canadian filmmakers. My previous film, 'Christmas Under the Northern Lights,' saw Jill Wagner playing a perfectly coiffured, successful woman, with love in her heart, falling for a hunky man with dark hair and perfect teeth. In this film... she does exactly the same.
I'm going to enjoy this film from the sidelines, with a game of Christmas film bingo, in the eternal hope that something new happens.
I'm assuming this film was assembled from a Christmas catalogue. Jill Wagner is clearly on page one, she's number one choice (again bringing hope and integrity). Nick Bateman is selected from the endless pages of chiselled eye candy, with sparkling teeth and a sleigh full of sincerity.
Here we go, let's have some fun, what we've got:
- The leading lady, focus of the story: golden locks, a latte in her hand, hope in her heart.
- The doe-eyed guy with a jawline to die for and a backstory of sadness.
- Christmas baubles on the chandeliers and taps, the Hallmark truck delivered on time.
- The Christmas movie kitchen, nothing's out of place, enough food to feed Belgium for a week.
- The Christmas jumper scene.
Bonus points for the heartstring-pulling child and a character called Marybeth.
What we don't have:
- Where's the old lady, the red-cardigan-wearing character, not unlike Betty White, giving out the wisdom of 85 years of baking from the heart?
- A single snowflake of originality-after six minutes you could map out the entire journey of the film.
It's not terrible per se-the acting is hard to fault, it does have a plot-but if you dare to see outside of the snow globe that these two are living in, you have a problem. If either of our love interests have touched a carb since 1998, I'm a Dutchman. Watch it, but for your general wellbeing, have eggnog first.
If only they'd cast Jason Bateman instead of Nick, and given it an action twist. 'A Christmas Survival for Daisy?' It could have been epic.
5/10.
I think I'll pause Christmas movie viewing for today, I'm getting cynical.
Pure Fun, No Agenda.
Not the best, not the worst
Santa comes through for Daisy
The secondary romance added additional interest. Good Christmas spirit throughout, and possibly a little magic thrown in.
With heart, a good script, a little humor here and there, and good acting from the entire cast, this stands out as one of the better early Great American Family Christmas offerings.
