This show is good at breaking the pattern without changing the spirit

Okay now, that was too classical a terror plot that only happened to manifest itself as a random murder investigation. So, in spirit, that is not a classical Castle story. However, the team knows what to add to the formula when subtracting a crucial element, hence, we got to see amazing moments regarding the chemistry between Beckett and Castle.

Freezing to death together? Living that classing what-wire-to-pull moment before a bomb? This double episode story had such highlights of tension, and I must say crafted pretty well despite how worn out such clichés are nowadays.

Even though the revealed plot seemed thin for a while, the monologue by the perp reloaded it with credible gravitas.

Well acted, well directed, well written... The only thing that bothers me was to keep seeing Josh around as Kate Beckett's love interest. The way she looks at Castle at this point in their relationship does not really make it credible for someone else to be in her life as a boyfriend.

It's ok, but not as good as previous seasons double episode

I watched setup and countdown back to back, so this review is about both of them. In my opinion the plot is too complicated, and can be confusing at times. I feel like the writers did everything they could to make the original suspects seem guilty, and then were scrambling to prove their innocence, leaving several plot holes behind. What makes these episodes great is all the Beckett/Castle moments we get, the ending is hilarious too.

This is the first time the title card for the show changed colors from red to blue and contained somber music.
    • Goofs
While Castle and Beckett are in the refrigerated shipping container, it shows exposed refrigeration piping. One hole in any of this piping would drain all the refrigerant and stop the refrigeration almost immediately. Beckett would have known this or at least tried it. Additionally, they both should have known that immobility is the worst way to stay warm in a situation like that. Her training alone should have had them running laps. Although this would have increased their rate of oxygen use, this would not be a factor, as a sealed room that large would give them about 3 days of breathable air, and hypothermia would kill them long before that.
    • Quotes

Kate Beckett: [locked in a freezing storage container] I always thought, being a cop, I'd take a bullet. I never thought I'd freeze to death.

Richard Castle: Hey, we're not dead yet.

Kate Beckett: I just wish this was one of your books and you could re-write the ending.

    • Crazy credits
Due to previous episode's cliffhanger and this episode's prologue, the title card appears with the whole 'Castle' logo displayed in icy blue, not the usual white with some red.
