A correct use of that metaphorical phrase can be found in material for a course on dinosaurs given in the Geology Department of the University of Texas at Austin: "The opposing view actually represents a much older idea recast in a modern phylogenetic mold." The word "recast" is the clue to the meaning of a "mold" in the context of phylogenetics.
When Camille takes Fisher's headphones out, she says "Hodgins". Camille was not calling Fisher by the name Hodgins when she removed his earphones, she was simply asking him when Hodgins would be done with the mold in reference to when Brennan was asking how long Hodgins would be and thought Fisher was ignoring her.
