This episode is about Bart taking care of an injured pigeon and growing to love it, until it gets eaten by Santas little helper. Liked the bits with Bart and the pigeon thought they were cute but once it gets to the stuff about Santas little helper it goes downhill. The end of the episode has Bart strangling an ostrich which is like..ok?? And at the end Bart seems to be ok with the fact his dog killed his pigeon, even though the pigeon didn't do anything wrong and it was an OSTRICH that attacked him which is an entirely different species of bird. What's the moral?? Dogs=good birds=bad??? Even as a dog lover myself I am extremely annoyed when shows act like dogs are the only good animals and every other animal is bad (like koth for example..) and this episode just annoyed me because it jumps on this bandwagon. Couple of funny jokes in the episode, I liked Mrs Krabbapel sending notes to Skinner and the bit with Milhouse looking through the fence made me laugh but other than that I probably won't watch it again.
I haven't been watching the simpsons for that long, but like any self respecting simpsons fan, I say the old episodes (season 1-10) are the best. But the simpsons seems to have started going up after the movie. Nothing will ever top the old ones, but this is the best episode since season 11's alone again naturadiddly. Although this episode won't top season 4s last exit to Springfield or season 5s cape fear, in a list from 1-50, thiswould be number 31. All the others are from seasons 1-11. So although other people may not love this episode, it had a lot great parts, like the ostrich scene. Goodnight. This review has been beastlybombst.
"How Munched Is That Birdie in the Window?" is an episode of The Simpsons that has its funny moments and an increasing level of intensity in the storyline. However, what truly stands out in this episode is its selection of musical themes for the soundtrack. The musical pieces chosen for the soundtrack are far superior to the episode itself. It's almost as if the music is carrying the weight of the show. If you haven't seen The Simpsons in decades and you happen to catch this episode, you'll find that good music is now far above the quality of the show. In conclusion, while the episode has its entertaining parts, the music steals the show and elevates it beyond what it would otherwise be.

- Trivia"Itchy & Scratchy in Dogday Hellody of 1933" is a spoof of The Broadway Melody (1929). The Itchy & Scratchy version features Edward G. Robinson from Little Caesar (1931) (anachronistically firing an M16, which wasn't developed until the 1960s); Will Rogers (with lasso, paraphrasing his famous saying, "I never met a man I didn't like"); 'W.C. Fields' ("A little hair of the dog that bit me", referring to the practice of drinking alcohol as a treatment for hangover); Harpo Marx; and Bing Crosby.
- GoofsWhen the family is driving home from the ostrich farm, with Santa's Little Helper, Maggie is nowhere to be seen.
- Quotes
Marge Simpson: A doctor who treats kids and pets?
Dr. Thurmond: Hey, in this economy I'll even remove tattoos.
Homer Simpson: Can you remove my tramp stamp? I got the idea from watching a show where people regret these.
