There's no dialogue in Dojoji Temple, and the intertitles throughout weren't translated in the version I found on Youtube, so I wasn't always sure of what was going on here. But I feel like that doesn't matter. This short's all about style and being aesthetically unique, and it's successful in that regard. It's an eerie and sometimes very striking-looking piece of stop-motion animation, and some of it's kind of creepy, too, all in a very dreamlike way. It felt like some parts of it were more traditionally animated, or that style of animation was combined with the stop-motion stuff, and that contributed to this not really feeling like much else I've seen.
That's all. It's good. A solid way to spend just under 20 minutes, and a nice way to get a slight movie fix on a day when I ran out of time to watch something feature-length.
