Ghostface Takes Manhattan (Best Sequel Yet)
As much as I have enjoyed all of the former sequels Scream VI is the first one that actually opens up the franchise and subverts the formula. It may not have the best storyline or denouement of the series, but overall it's the best sequel yet, because it does more than retread the original, while still checking all the boxes to make it a bona fide Scream installment. This is the Scream equivalent of what Jason Takes Manhattan should have been. It has the necessary drama, gore and humor, but its best quality is the suspense. The subway sequence alone is a masterclass in suspense. Also, with all due respect, I strongly feel that Neve Campbell's absence from this entry inadvertently made it a better movie. Remember when Amber said you "can't have a bona fide Halloween without Jamie Lee"? Well, apparently, we CAN have a bona fide Scream movie without Neve. That said, I do hope she will be back for part 7.
PS: There's a post-credits scene.
