This is a great story that made me and my high school age children laugh and wonder about life. The High School and Rhea's friends as well as her interactions are all contemporary and very real. The magic and wonder evolves slowly and keeps one asking questions trying to figure out the nature of this family. Aidan Quinn as the father is superb and reminded my of how much I have liked him back to his role in Reckless with Daryl Hannah back in 1984. Virginia Madsen makes a great believable "almost" angry Mom. We loved and laughed with every appearance of the character Nika played by Jee Young Han, she was fantastic. The rest of the cast, including Zosia Mamet in the lead role were very will directed and enjoyable to watch. Hats off also to the role of Simon, we think played by Nat Wolff in glasses. The music is excellent. The art focus, paintings and sculptures are inspiring. Great film all around.
This started out as a very promising movie , up to about the 50minute mark, then it dropped off so drastically in almost every way. I don't know if they suddenly lost financial support or the Directors quit or Something happened that affected everyone, but the editing the Directing even the acting dropped to a level that i would only give 1 star for normally.
Shockingly bad and I am surprised it even has a 4 on IMDb Don't waste your time seriously. This is the type of movie where you should be allowed to return the DVD for a refund, and compensation for wasting an hour and a half of your time.
What were they thinking releasing it like this, surely they were warned it was not ready for release. If i was one of the actors i would be too ashamed to admit i acted in it, but at least i now know what directors to give a pass on next time i watch something, which will be a while since this has put me off watching anything for a while.

It started well enough - good cast, nice scenery, typical teenage issues including cliques, cheerleader with the cool guy, teased misfit, etc. About halfway in it took a turn toward much poorer quality across the board, and the last third was pretty painful to watch. As for the end, well yes - it certainly was an end. BOOM. No more money for any more script or filming, folks - let's call it a WRAP!
Just don't. There are far better uses of your time, and there are far better movies about teens, witches or magic than this cliched attempt that leaves you wondering "Um - that's it?"

A girl finds that she enjoys being different. Then she finds out she is different. She does not want to be different. Then she learns that difference is a positive thing. We leave her contemplating her options at being different.
The movie is cute at best. We have a lot of talented contemporary actors such as Olympia Dukakis and Aidan Quinn. There is a plethora of contemporary songs. Lots of nice pictures of the woods. We see some blood and guts but nothing gratuitous.
The program hits us over the head with messages such as tolerating the differences in people and their ways, do not drink and drive, there's time enough for love, be happy with who you are, and be happy in your work.
If you have the opportunity to see it for free it is worth the time spent.

I feel It may be that I am being generous just because of the genre. It was obvious it was low budget and cut corners. The climactic point was good but did not fulfill the "magic" of the rest of the movie.
It was nice to see an attractive lead that was pretty yet not perfect. Thank you for not photo-shopping her into fantasy. I could feel good about showing this movie to my daughter and younger girls.
Overall, not a bad feel good movie, I just would have liked to see it with a bit "more to it." Not the waste of time others stated, but seriously it did lack something, it could have been more "magical." It almost felt like someone lost their muse at some point in production.
That said the story line, and then overall idea were really good. Loved the love shown in the family.
