a memory about an old man

This is about a memory of an old man. It begins with a scene where an old man walks to visit to someone's house with a little brown parcel. A unicorn plays a meaningful part in this film. The scene where a boy is hit on the head and the porcelain unicorn is broken is very cruel and sad. However, this porcelain unicorn connects a boy and a girl finally. That's why this film moves and impresses us very much. Though this film is very short, we can guess that they have endured many hardship for a long time, even if there are a few lines of dialog in this film. I recommend you to watch this wonderful film.

    Warm Hearted Man

This short film is one of the most impressive I've seen. The main story is that a German boy saves a Jewish girl's life during the war. From the begging, the soundtrack is so sad. I think in this movie, the music has an important meaning like expression of actors. When a content of the screen is slowly terrible and fearful, the music is also changing. So, people may concentrate on this film and imagine what it is happening next. Also, from the begging Porcelain Unicorn goes beyond time and space like now and past. So people who watch this can understand what the story tells from now on. If you want to be moved by a movie, I recommend this short film.

    Porcelain Unicorn

'Porcelain Unicorn' is a very touching short film. Three little boys go into the house which looks empty. But, suddenly, they hear some noise and two boys escape from the house. A boy who is still in the house tries to go close to the shelter where the noise comes from. He realises that there is a little girl who hides in the shelter. He finds that she holds a unicorn in her hands, and he asks "What is that?". Their conversation goes on. What do they talk about? The context of the conversation is very heartwarming. Also, this film shows the future of the boy and girl and their future is the most impressive part of this film.

This film has only six lines of dialogue and is quite a short film. However, this is easy to understand and definitely makes people touched. There is a line "Beautiful" while they are talking about the unicorn. I thought that "beautiful" means the unicorn, but there is a little bit of a difference from what I imagined. I am sure that you will be impressed by this scene.

Therefore, I highly recommend 'Porcelain unicorn'.

    Porcelain Unicorn

The story is about a German boy and girl. A man reflects on the old days. When the man was young, he founds an girl in a small closet. She has a scared look on her face and she has a small porcelain unicorn in her hands. When she hands him the unicorn, some German soldiers break into the house. The boy set her free. After several decades, the war ends. And the boy becomes an old man. In the end, he appears in front of an old woman because he wants to return the unicorn to her.

The film has only six lines of dialogue. In addition, the film is a color film and has clear images. It is easy to understand their feelings by their expressions.

I thought the film is about war and sad story at first. However, it was a heart-warming movie and it moved me. In particular. I admire that it is easy to understand the story though there are very few lines.

    Heartwarming interaction

The Porcelain Unicorn is not a novel work like scientific fiction. Rather the background of the story where a German boy meets a Jewish girl sounds very realistic if you know the history of Germany during WWII. Though the setting is dark as you may see, the short film is so touching and even made me happy after watching. I think this emotional effect highly relies on the film's structure. The director did a great job in that he connected an old protagonist in the beginning, young protagonists in the middle, and back to the old protagonists at the end naturally. You can stay sympathizing them without being distracted while watching. The porcelain unicorn, not the title but an item in the film, also plays a crucial part in the film. The delivered images of porcelain such as pure or fragile resonates with that of characters' throughout the story. The unicorn is not just a toy passed among characters but a key object that portrays characters indirectly. Speaking of indirectness, there are some lines that can be interpreted in more that one way. I have already watched it twice and will watch it again, looking for new discoveries.
